It is the Simple Things

A Backpack Full of Possibilities

There is something special about the first day of school.

A freshly pressed uniform. The excitement of seeing friends again. A new teacher. A new classroom. And for a child, perhaps the biggest feeling of all—the belief that this year could be their year.

But imagine beginning that first day without the basic supplies you need.

For many families, preparing a child for school means stretching already limited household resources just a little further. And when food, housing, transportation, school fees, and other necessities must come first, a backpack filled with school supplies can become something a family simply cannot afford.

We don’t want a lack of supplies to dim a child’s excitement about learning.

Sometimes, creating opportunity begins with meeting the simplest needs.

A pencil. A backpack. A pair of shoes. A school uniform.

To many of us, they may seem like simple things.

But to a child preparing for school, they can mean so much more.

🎒 A backpack says, I am ready to learn.
👕 A new set of uniform provides confidence and an eagerness to start the school year.
✏️ School supplies give a child the tools to participate.
👟 A good pair of shoes keeps them comfortable during the walk to and from school; saying nothing of the confidence they find within themselves when they don’t feel like the ugly duckling.

Urgent Causes

2026 Feature Initiative

Donation of 50 Bags of Rice to Abundant Life Chapel Orphanage

What began as one member recognizing a need became an opportunity for all of us to make a difference.

In 2026, Abundant Life Chapel Orphanage in Lower Margibi County, Liberia, was brought to the attention of Progressive Monkeys as a cause worthy of our consideration. After learning about the orphanage and the children it serves, the need was presented to our members.

We came together, discussed how we could help, and made a collective decision to act.

Our members voted to provide $750 toward the purchase of rice, turning a simple conversation about a need into something tangible for the children and those who care for them.

This video captures more than a donation.

It represents what can happen when people separated by cities, states, countries, and even continents remain connected by a common desire to give back. It represents alumni coming together—not because we were required to, but because we had an opportunity to help and chose to answer.
